delivering knowledge

two men go out swimming in the sea to dive for pearls.
every day
when they finish collecting the pearls that they found for the day
they go to the beach
and see people waiting there who cannot swim
so one man boasts to them how many pearls he has collected
he rarely gives away his pearls - but if he does he throws it hard at them so that it hits some in their faces - and they begin to dislike asking for pearls
and he makes fun of people who cannot swim and ridicules other divers who have not collected as many pearls as him

the other man comes to the beach
hiding how many pearls he has found
and someone comes to him begging for a pearl
and so he hands it to him gently
he walks by some other poor people who do not beg
but he still hands them a few pearls gently - to help them -
he never boasts about how many he has accumulated
nor looks at other divers for competition
he simply swims, collects and gives amicably

The sea is knowledge
the pearls are beneficial wisdoms
the two divers are scholars swimming in the sea of knowledge
the people on the beach who cannot swim are laymen seeking help and beneficial wisdom
the first is a scholar who is harsh in giving his knowledge to the people
and arrogantly finds fault in others wherever he can
the second is a scholar who gives wisdom to who needs it when they need it in a beautiful and gentle manner - as is the Sunnah
