Islamic Psychology / Spiritualism

Chest [sadr] = skull / head

inside it is the
heart [qalb] = brain / mind

it has two sides:

Right (East* / Female-Motherly / Holistic) = hot-Fiery-heart [fu'ad] = Emotional-Imagery-Creative side of the brain
...in excess this can be bad since it leads to heedlessness and hastiness but it is also the much needed source of Love (and how else can you love God swt with all your "heart"?)
(teachings of Jesus ['eissa] a.s.)

Left (West* / Male-Fatherly / Specific Details) side= cool-rationalising-heart [lubb ..(i.e. "men of understanding-hearts" ahlu lbab)] = Mathemtical-Logical-Symbolic side of the brain.
...this can be good since it is the much needed intellect ['aql] but it is the source of the overprotective, veiling Ego [nafs] (and how else can you know the Truth?)
(teachings of Buddha [dhu l-kifl] a.s.)

* The east (orient) also tends to be more metaphorical and mystical and caring in their psychology / explanation of events - corresponding to a dominant right (female) east side.    The more east you go (Asia) the more humble (lack of ego) and mystical or imagery they become.
* The west also tends to be more logical and intellectualy inclined as well as egotistical - corresponding to a dominant left (male) west side.  The more west you go (i.e. USA) the less mystical and more materialistic , egotistical and intellectual people are.
* This may explain why the chosen lands (Jerusalem, Mecca, Medina) have always been in the centre, geographically ..not too east not too west. Neither extreme is good. A balanced place because we must have a balanced mind. The middle path is the sunnah.
