Taqwa has always been slightly difficult to translate. Some badly translate it as "fear". But there are plenty of other words in Arabic which mean "fear" in the sense that most of us would be thinking. fear [khawf]. Terror [rahb]. etc
Taqwa has more of a meaning of "Cautiousness" (i.e. how you would cautiously walk along a dangerous path with thorns on either side)
and yet, it also carries an implied meaning of being "Consciously aware" (of God).
Thus, the best translation I have decided for this word is:
"Mindfulness [l-taqwa]"
(Itaqi l-lah = be mindful of God)
